LEAH QIU

I became interested in design while flipping through spreads in National Geographic and Backpacker Magazine. I currently am an editorial and design intern at Backpacker Magazine in Boulder, CO. I am proficient with the Adobe Creative Suite and have experience with reporting, editing and graphic design from college. I want to be able to use the power of design to create social change. People are drawn to what looks good, and I want to create appealing and usable pieces that inspire.

I grew up on Oahu, Hawaii and moved for the first time to California in 2014. I knew I “wasn’t in Kansas anymore” when I did not know what “carne asada” was. I quickly dove head first into the Mexican food scene and now can't get enough. I have always been interested in design and visual storytelling. I hope to use my passion and skills to create designs that focus on social justice and preserving the environment. I first discovered my passion for nature as a teenager and pursued this passion by becoming a wilderness-hiking guide. I have guided trips through Hawaii, Montana and have trekked through Switzerland, Croatia etc.
